David MischelDavid Mischel
Manager of IT

David Mischel began working at the CIND in May, 2006, as Manager of IT for systems and programming. He has a technical background in system architecture, project management, application and infrastructure design and development. Prior to joining the CIND he worked at UCSF and Genentech.


Frank Ezekiel
Senior Software Engineer

Frank Ezekiel is a senior software engineer at the CIND, and has worked in medical image processing for many years. Contributions include software for tissue classification, co-analysis of MRI and MRSI data, and analysis of longitudinal change in Dementia. Current projects are focused on tools for data organization, management, and process automation. His hobbies are scuba diving, music (guitar and banjo) and flying.


Derek Flenniken
Data Manager

Derek graduated from UC Berkeley in 1999. He joined the CIND in spring 2000 and is responsible for the design & maintenance of databases and database interfaces that mediate patient recruitment, patient scheduling, data acquisition, data entry, and data analysis. In his free time Derek enjoys snowboarding, mountain biking, more programming, and music.


Cuong La

Cuong La
R&D Engineer

Cuong joined CIND in December 2005; he develops and manages softwares for Siemens 4T and 1.5T machine. He researches and develops in-house software project to manage and organize MRI image data for research and clinical trial use. Moreover, he involves with automation pipeline using grid computing to automate image processing and image reconstruction for research data. Prior to coming to CIND, Cuong worked as software engineer at Siemens Oncology Care System in Concord California and NASA Ames Research Center.


Rich Mazzarisi
Computer Specialist

Rich Mazzarisi received his BA in Chemistry from Rutgers – The State University in New Brunswick NJ and his MS in Physical Chemistry from The University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI where he developed his fatal attraction to computers and computer programming.

He joined CIND in May of 1994 as their first computer tech after spending 14 years in the NMR lab of the College of Chemistry at UC Berkeley as a computer and NMR tech.


Henry MenschHenry Mensch
Storage Manager

Henry graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in August of 2006, and he joined the CIND shortly afterwards. He is responsible for the design & maintenance of systems and storage infrastructure which supports the work of all the investigators at the lab. Before joining the CIND, Henry has worked in a variety of information technology leadership roles at MIT's Project Athena, Booz Allen Hamilton, IBM, Digital Equipment Corporation, Oracle, and Razorfish. Henry likes to travel and is a newly-licensed amateur radio operator.


Patrice Weber
Software Developer


Patrice received his PhD in Geophysics from the University Paul Sabatier in Toulouse. He joined the CIND in July 1998. Currently works on a software project for 3D spectroscopy image processing (MIDAS) and various tools for automation and data management. Prior to joining the CIND, he worked as a geophysicist at the Arizona State University and later on as a system administrator.
