Center for Imaging of Neurodegenerative Diseases

High Field MRI Physicist

The Center for Imaging of Neurodegenerative Diseases (CIND) located at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in San Francisco and affiliated with the University of California seeks an MRI physicist at the Adjunct Assistant/Associate Professor level for brain imaging research. The successful applicant will develop new acquisition methods for structural, perfusion, diffusion, and functional imaging at 4 Tesla and contribute to an innovative program of novel image reconstruction and analysis techniques. As techniques are developed, they will be used by a large clinical program aimed at investigation of normal aging, Alzheimer’s disease, and other neurodegenerative diseases.

The position requires a Ph.D. in physics, physical chemistry, engineering or equivalent fields. The ideal candidate has a solid background in NMR physics, signal detection and processing theory and hands-on experience in pulse sequence development, preferably within the Siemens IDEAL programming environment. Experience in other modular and functional computer languages, including LINUX, C, C++, and Matlab is important. Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks are essential.

Applicants should include their curriculum vitae, a statement of research interest, and should arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to Dr. Michael W. Weiner, Director of the CIND at Michael.Weiner@ucsf.edu or faxed to 415.668.2864
