Part-Time Physician

Part-time positions are available for MDs with experience in clinical neurology at the Center for Imaging of Neurodegenerative Diseases (CIND), directed by Dr. Michael Weiner at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. Board certification or completion of residency is not required and Neurology Residents or Fellows are encouraged to apply.

The Position

The CIND is building a cohort of normal subjects of all ages, subjects with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and dementia. The primary responsibilities will be to review available medical records and test results, perform neurological exams on study participants with and without memory complaints, diagnose study participants using published criteria for MCI and dementia, assess current cognition and cognitive decline, document exam findings, and consult with study staff as needed. Additional opportunities to be involved in the imaging research activities include data analysis and authorship on publications.

Time Commitment

Up to 16 hours/month, with exams to be performed at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. Approximately 6-8 exams are scheduled every month, with each exam lasting 1 – 1.5 hours. Exams will be scheduled at the mutual convenience of the research subjects and the MDs.

Compensation

Financial compensation will be comparable to other part time activities for residents/fellows and is negotiable.

Requirements

  • MD (4th year Neurology Resident or Fellow)
  • Experience with different forms of dementia and MCI
